Franchising
Franchises – Our services are exclusively for Franchisees
Over the last 10 years we have built up an extensive knowledge of franchising whilst acting for both franchisors and franchisees, as do other legal experts in franchising. However, in early 2009 we decided to act only for franchisees.
This was because we could see that there was a potential conflict of interest. We decided that we wanted to protect franchisee’s interests exclusively. We are currently the only firm in the UK to do this.
We pride ourselves on giving open, honest, practical and straightforward advice.
Whatever your needs, our aim remains the same, to ensure that your interests are protected.

1. The Franchise Show 2010 February 12th and 13th at ExCel
Jenny Batchelor spoke at the Franchise Show on 12th and 13th of February 2010. Her presentation was entitled “Go in with your eyes open; a commercial and legal perspective on franchising. In addition, Batchelor Myddelton had a stand at the show manned by Jenny and assistant solicitor Amy Leite. Prospective Franchisees were able to sign up for our guide entitled “7 costly mistakes when buying a franchise.” There was great interest at the show from prospective franchisees. The room in which the presentation was held was overflowing and the stand was consistently busy.
Here is what one of the attendees had to say:
“I attended Jenny’s presentation at the ExCel centre’s Franchise Exhibition on 12th February 2010. Jenny provided some initial cautionary advice for considering franchising opportunities explaining the possible pitfalls very clearly and providing examples to illustrate her points. This, together with the accompanying guide, has increased my confidence in asking the necessary questions at the early stage of negotiations. Should I plan to proceed further I would not hesitate to seek Jenny’s legal advice.”

3. Franchise Seminars
Following the popularity of Jenny’s recent seminar at the Franchise Show titled “Go in with your eyes open; a commercial and legal perspective on franchising” we are considering scheduling a series of seminars for prospective franchisees who are considering buying a franchise. We have received a number of reports that people were unable to get into the seminar room at ExCel due to the overcrowding.
The seminar will give general guidance on the questions to ask the franchisor, the issues any franchisee should satisfy themselves of before agreeing to purchase a franchise and examples of the common pitfalls that we see every day as the result of franchisees rushing into franchises without understanding the full implications. The seminar will also include case studies based on real life matters we have dealt with.
We are likely to need to hire a venue, which will probably be in central London to accommodate this and as a result we are proposing to charge a fee for attendance to cover this cost. If you would be interested in attending a seminar for prospective franchisees please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Once we have an idea of the level of interest we will provide further details. As this is our first general seminar if anyone has any specific points they would like covered please email these to us.
